16 May Reconciling Modern Medicine and Concierge Medicine
When people imagine a doctor making house calls, it’s often an image of the long-time trusted family physician from a bygone era. How do you reconcile that with modern medicine and specializations?
I focus on delivering personalized care, not disrupting my patients’ daily lives. I bring modern medicine with me. More than the traditional physician’s bag, I’m bringing with me virtual tools, knowledge and skills. You can think of me not only as a house call doctor, but a mobile doctor’s office because I have so many resources available. I coordinate it all, to fit the patient’s needs.
Now let’s take it one step further: I have patients who really enjoy their doctor’s visits. How could that be? Because we’re working together to improve that person’s health; it’s an active, cooperative effort. I identify anything that is holding that person back — it could be a deficiency or it could be some other aspect of their life that is having a negative effect on their health. Then we address it in a way that empowers that person to take charge of improving their health.
