Ketamine therapy can provide rapid relief for depression, anxiety, PTSD, chronic pain, and treatment-resistant conditions.
Ketamine is approved by the FDA and is safe to use when administered by a licensed medical professional. Your medical provider will perform a pre-screening for your psychiatric and cardiovascular health and review your substance use history.
Typically, a ketamine infusion therapy session lasts about 30 minutes. The duration may vary as the medical provider will observe before and after treatment.
Usually more than one ketamine infusion therapy session is recommended. During a pre-therapy consultation with your medical provider, the number of sessions required to meet your health goals will be discussed.
During a ketamine infusion therapy session, you will be in a quiet, dimly lit room. You can choose to sit in a reclining bed or chair. Noise-canceling headphones or calm, relaxing music and eye shades can contribute to a calm, stress-free environment. You will receive the ketamine infusion via an IV drip and your medical provider is present to observe and monitor the session.
Within 5–10 minutes, you may feel:
The dissociative feelings will fade within an hour. You will be aware of your surroundings and can communicate during the session.
Ketamine IV therapy is generally safe when administered by a medical professional in a supervised setting. There are common side effects including light-headedness, disassociation, drowsiness and fatigue or headache, that occur after therapy and usually reside within a few hours. Driving or operating machinery should be avoided.
Ketamine IV infusions are not covered by insurance. Many individuals use their Health Savings Accounts (HSA) or Flexible Savings Accounts (FSA) to take advantage of pre-tax income for their ketamine sessions.
