Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Empower Hereditary Cancer Test?

The Empower test is a comprehensive genetic panel that analyzes 81 genes associated with increased risk for over a dozen hereditary cancers, including breast, ovarian, colon, and endometrial cancers. It provides a clear picture of your inherited cancer risk so you can make informed, proactive decisions.

Who should consider this test?

Individuals with a personal or family history of cancer - especially at a young age, multiple cancers, or specific types such as ovarian, pancreatic, or male breast cancer - can benefit from this test.

How is the test performed?

A simple blood or saliva sample is collected, either at home or in a clinic, and sent to a CLIA-certified laboratory for detailed analysis.

Is fasting required before the test?

No fasting is needed. You can eat and drink normally prior to sample collection.

How long until I receive my results?

Results are typically available within 2 weeks. A ConciergeMD provider will review your results with you and help explain what they mean for your health.

Which cancers does the Empower test assess?

The panel screens for genes linked to more than 12 cancers, including breast, ovarian, colon, endometrial, gastric, and pancreatic cancers.

Does this test identify all hereditary cancer risks?

While the 81-gene panel covers many high-risk genes, it does not capture every hereditary cancer risk. Your ConciergeMD provider can help determine if additional testing is recommended.

I already have cancer. Can I still take the test?

Yes. Empower can provide insights for treatment planning, assessing risk for secondary cancers, and eligibility for clinical trials.

Are my results confidential?

Absolutely. Your genetic information is private and shared only with you and authorized healthcare providers.

How do I interpret my results?

Results come in a clear, patient-friendly report. ConciergeMD provides a one-on-one review with a medical provider or genetic counselor to help you understand your risk and next steps.

How do I get started?

Simply schedule a consultation with ConciergeMD. We’ll guide you through the process—from sample collection to understanding your results - so you can take control of your long-term health.
