Microneedling

In-home microneedling treatments can improve the texture and tone of your skin, as well as reduce the appearance of acne scars. At-home appointments make microneedling treatments a fast and convenient way to help your skin look smoother and rejuvenated.

What is Microneedling?

microneedlingMicroneedling, also known as Collagen Induction Therapy, is a non-invasive beauty treatment that utilizes needles to puncture the surface of the skin. Individual needles, a microneedling roller, or tattoo gun can be used for this treatment.

Microneedling can improve the appearance of a variety of skin conditions including “…pigmentary disorders, wrinkles, post-acne atrophic scars, burn-related scars, and big pores…” Microneedling works by ‘damaging’ your skin and triggering your body’s natural healing response, resulting in increased blood flow and collagen that can improve skin texture and tightness.

The needles can improve the appearance of acne scars by breaking the collagen bundles just below the surface of your skin that cause scars and improving collagen flow to the area.

Microneedling can also be used for transdermal drug delivery, such as hyaluronic acid or ascorbic acid for further skin enhancement, which are then more deeply absorbed into the skin surface.

Facial treatments are not always recommended for individuals with dark skin types due to post-treatment complications such as pigmentation changes. Microneedling, however, is “…a very safe technique for dark skin types, where risk of postinflammatory pigmentation is very high…”.

How does a Microneedling Treatment Work?

microneedlingMicroneedling treatments are a minimally invasive procedure that can be done in the comfort of your home. On the day of the appointment, our nurse will arrive at your home with everything needed for the appointment. Your skin is first cleaned, then a topical anaesthetic is applied to numb your face and minimize your discomfort.

Treatment takes less than an hour, after which you can resume your activities as normal. In some cases, we may recommend against performing any strenuous exercise immediately after the treatment.

You may notice some redness or swelling after the procedure. This is normal and will subside within a day or two. Ice packs can help reduce swelling and ease discomfort. Many patients start to see visible improvement in skin texture and tone, as well as a reduction in acne scars, within a month.
